Government Affairs Update
Presentation by Dean Stroud, California Government Affairs Committee

Come join us at our CVC monthly meeting on March 3, 2010, where you can learn something and network with your peers. This month’s topic is “Government Affairs Update.” Dean Stroud, new member to the California Government Affairs Committee, is our speaker. He will be presenting information on the recent activities of the CGAC, and future focus of this important group. Learn what your CGAC is doing in the regulatory environment, and what is happening today that can affect you tomorrow.

Dean Stroud has attended schools and worked in the Fresno area most of his life. After working in Heavy Construction as a mechanic and welder for twelve years, Dean went to college graduating from California State University, Fresno in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology, with emphasis in Mechanical Engineering.

After working in various job positions Dean felt he could best serve in the capacity of Safety and Risk Management, an area he truly enjoys. For the past twenty years, he has actively inspected job sites throughout the United States working with general contractors, safety managers, engineers, and workers to eliminate any hazard where an accident could occur.

Dean currently holds a California State Contractor‘s license [A-General] and is certified in OSHA 500, first aid/CPR, train-the-trainer in power actuated tools and equipment operating, trucks, forklifts [extended and fixed mast], boom/man lifts, and scissor lifts. Dean is an active member of the Central Valley Chapter of the ASSE, and most recently The California Government Affairs Committee [CGAC].

If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything. Dean is of the belief that accidents don’t just happen: they occur when workers fail to recognize or they use bad judgment when they suspect a hazard exists.
