Meetings & Events

Thanks to all those who attended the June meeting that was a joint effort between Central Valley ASSE and AgSafe. Michael Alvarez, who is the Regional Manager for Cal/OSHA’s Consultation Services presented to the group. Michael is responsible for the statewide Consultation Services and other specialty units such as the Voluntary Protection Program, Research and Education Unit, and High Hazard Consultation. Michael put on an excellent presentation enjoyed by all. Internal Safety Audits and Inspections
Presentation by David Gee, CSP, CHMM and Ward Scheitrum, CSP, CPEA, ARM, CSMS, SPHR-CA

Internal Safety Audit/Inspection (SAI) is a key component of any legitimate safety program. Hospitals, schools, governments, non-profits, and businesses rely on audits and inspection for accreditation & certification of services and/or products. Specific safety regulations requiring SAI include: Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Process Safety Management (PSM), Food Safety orders, Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFAT), Codes of Safe Practices, BIT inspections, Hot Work orders, etc. SAI is a measurement tool for evaluating the organization’s overall safety culture. When performed properly, SAI can reduce exposures, motivate the workforce, identify strengths and challenges, reduce accidents, and provide a competitive advantage.

David Gee, CSP, CHMM
David has been with DOSH (Cal/OSHA Consultation) since Sept 2001. He has been assisting employers in various industries throughout central California. Prior to working for DOSH, David was a EH&S specialist at a steel foundry in Berkeley, CA. David has earned a bachelor’s in Chemistry from CSU Fresno. He is also a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Ward Scheitrum, CSP, CPEA, ARM, CSMS, SPHR-CA
Ward served as president of the Central Valley Chapter of ASSE (in 1997 and 2004) and the Central Valley Safety Society (2010). He completed his bachelor’s degree in biology and graduated from CSUF with an MBA degree. He will complete a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) degree at Walden University in 2011. He has worked at Britz Companies since 1992.

The meeting will start at 5:30pm with social / networking time, and a buffet will be served starting at 5:45pm. At 6:00pm, we’ll begin with Chapter business, the pledge of allegiance, and introductions. Our speakers will start at 6:15pm and go through 7:00. The cost remains the same: $20.00.
