Our President J.T. Parnell presenting our November Chapter meeting presenter with a Certificate of Appreciation for presenting to the group on Construction Safety on Roadways. She covered work zone safety not only for the workers but for each one of us while approaching and travelling through work zones. Kristen Anderson, also our Chapter Secretary did an excellent job.
The ASSE Foundation is proud of its former scholarship recipients, and keeps in touch with them to find out how their scholarships have helped them to advance careers and achieve their goals.
Whether they have entered the workforce or are still pursuing SH&E degrees, most recipients have acknowledged that the scholarship helped them earn respect, gain experience, increase their knowledge and get a start in the SH&E field.
Beauregard Middeaugh received the $1,000 Distinguished Service Award Scholarship in 2009 and the $4,650 CNA Foundation Scholarship in 2010. After receiving these awards, he went on to pursue a PhD at Purdue University in Occupational & Environmental Health. He is also currently working as an EHS Intern Manager at E&B Paving, Inc.
"Financially, obtaining my degree without the support of the ASSE Foundation scholarship would not have been possible. The award also served as an important source of motivation for me and I think this improved my focus and nurtured my professional goals. I will not forget the generosity of ASSEF, and I hope to give back during my career."
In addition, Middeaugh has managed four NIOSH-funded research grants regarding silicosis prevention while studying as a MS and PhD student at Purdue University. This research has been presented on three continents. He will be traveling to China during summer 2011 to incorporate this research into a presentation entitled "Health Hazards for the Global Contractor."
The ASSE Foundation Supports Our Future SH&E Leaders
Even our brightest students will face challenges in their academic years. When these students focus their studies toward the SH&E profession, wouldn't it be great to know that YOU were the one who provided their inspiration? YOU can have a significant impact on these young SH&E leaders. Not only will you receive the personal satisfaction that comes from giving, your donation will support these initiatives:
In return, your name will appear on our donor list ($50+ donation) and you will receive an invitation to the Donor Reception ($100+ donation) which will be held at the Art Institute of Chicago during ASSE's SAFETY 2011 100th Anniversary Celebration. Please consider a gift that will ensure the safety of our workforce for years to come.
